Rat Portraits – 2014 to 2016

Rat Portraits was Ruby’s First solo show, at A Gallery in Preston. The collection of paintings were created using house paint, enamel paint, found objects and old picture frames. Completed in a period of mania the exhibition also consisted of live painting and a 2meter tall rat puppet suspended from the ceiling.

Emma Armstrong-Porter is an artist and educator who lives and works on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. They were born in 1986 and are known for their work across many disciplines, especially printmaking and chemistry based photography. They were the co-founder of NOIR darkroom, a gallery and photographic darkroom based in Naarm/Melbourne. They were the recipient of the 2023 Noel Counihan Art Award, the 2021 Midsumma Australia Post Arts prize, were a finalist in the 2020 Bowness Photography Prize and a finalist in the 2023 Burnie Print Prize, the 2023 Geelong Gallery Print Award, 2023 Iris Award and 2023 National Photographic Portrait Prize. Emma has exhibited across Victoria and interstate, and their work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria as well as many private collectors.
