This is Bill. He was a sentimental bloke, a bit rough around the edges. But it’s 1915 and he’s in love with his tart, Doreen.
This portrait uses tattoo motifs to tell the narrative of Bill’s outing to the theater with Doreen and his connection to the play “Romeo and Juliet”.
Although his hands are rugged from fighting, Bill’s personality is changed when love fills his veins, like a poison. The coded images in this piece also describe the emotions he feels when he squeezes Doreen’s hand.
The linocut process allows me to carve and ink personal stories, drawing a parallel to the tattoo process
